Independent technical counsel

Sound judgement, for decisions that are difficult to reverse

I advise leadership teams on technology they cannot easily evaluate from within — architecture, vendors, engineering organisation. One experienced engineer, no firm behind me, no interest in the outcome but yours.

When people call me

“The business is growing faster than our engineering is maturing.”

“Everyone says we should be using AI. No one can tell me where it would actually pay off for us.”

“We have reached the point where no one dares to touch the system.”

“Our best engineers are frustrated, and I am starting to worry they will leave.”

“We just spent serious money on software that is not delivering.”

“We are starting a company, and I want the foundations laid right the first time.”

Services

01

Independent second opinion

A rigorous, impartial review of a significant technical decision — a vendor proposal, an architecture, a major quote — concluded with a written recommendation in clear business language.

02

Engineering assessment

A candid evaluation of your systems, team, and delivery practice: where you stand, what will cost you within the year, and what deserves attention first.

03

Technical advisory

For companies without senior technical leadership of their own: ongoing access to experienced judgement through a monthly review, evaluation of key hires, and counsel whenever questions arise.

How an engagement works

A conversation

Thirty minutes, no charge, no obligation. We establish what you are facing and whether I can genuinely help.

A fixed proposal

Defined scope, defined fee, defined timeline — agreed before any work begins. No open-ended billing.

A recommendation

A written conclusion you can act on, discussed with you in person. What you do with it is entirely yours.

Advice is only worth taking from someone with nothing to sell you afterwards.

To keep my counsel independent, there are things I deliberately do not do:

  • No implementation or coding work
  • No reselling of software or licences
  • No commissions or vendor partnerships
  • No staffing or outsourced teams

When implementation is what you need, I will help you choose who should do it — that is precisely the kind of decision I advise on.

Patrik Razem

Fifteen years as an engineer and technical leader. I have designed and operated production systems as a contractor and consultant for NLB, Sportradar, Gorenje, and others, and I take a small number of advisory engagements alongside my primary work. Every engagement is conducted personally. My bias is deliberate: simple over clever, boring over fashionable, and technology that fits your organisation instead of fighting it.

Facing something you’d rather not decide alone?

A thirty-minute conversation will tell us both whether I can help.
